Helena Township Board Meeting – 08/09/2018

Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Rick Teague. Present: Rick Teague, David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins, Butch Bartz and Catherine Rice. Motion to approve agenda by Bartz and support by Robbins and motion carried.

Conflict of interest: None

Public Comment: Barry Cole spoke about his candidacy for Antrim County probate judge.

Approval of minutes: Motion by Rice w/support by Robbins to approve minutes with changes and motion carried.

Treasurer’s report: Beginning balance as of July 1, 2018: $456,391.21       Receipts: $9,882.44   Dispersed: $20,299.21   Ending balance: $438,254.87 as of 07/31/2018

Motion to approve treasurer’s report by Teague w/support by Robbins and motion carried.

Presentation of Bills: July 1st-31; $12,419.87 and August 1st-9th; $25,855.78

Speakers: None

Communications: Peterson presented a proposal from Power Home Solar and Roofing for a solar electric system for the community center. It would include 86 ground mounted solar panels, an inverter, design and permitting for a cost of $99,575.00. To be reviewed.

Zoning: Bob Logee is the new zoning administrator effective 08/10/2018

Planning Commission: Robbins reported that there was no quorum at last meeting. ZBA meeting scheduled for August 15^th. Teague appointed Gordy Schafer to the planning commission to replace Ken Renaud.

Ambulance Authority: No update. Working on five year expenditure plan for equipment.

Parks: Ruth Smith reported that the trail work at Coy Mtn. will start August 13^th. Ribbon cutting at the tennis courts scheduled for 10:30 AM, August 25^th.

Roads: Bartz reported that repair work to Helena Road is completed except for the striping.

Old Business: None

New Business: Paul Delange reviewed proposed improvement to the Depot parking lot by placing asphalt along the concrete walkway and in front of the storage garage to the veteran’s memorial at a cost of $6500.00. Teague made the motion that the township share would be not to exceed $5000.00 with support by Robbins and the motion carried. Delange indicated that the Historical Society may contribute $1500.00 and may obtain another bid.
