Helena Township Board Meeting September 14th, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:02 PM. Members present were David Peterson, Bonnie Robbins, Cathy Rice, Butch Peeples and Butch Bartz. Motion by Rice to approve the agenda with changes and supported by Robbins and approved. Motion by Robbins to approve the August’s meeting minutes and supported by Bartz and approved.

Treasurer’s Report: beginning balance August 1st, 2023 is $524,884.75
Total receipts: $19,112.18 and total disbursements: $51,736.37
Ending balance August 31, 2023 is $492,260.56
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Bartz and supported by Robbins and approved.
Presentation of Bills: August 1-31; $40,674.23 and September 1-14; $8,285.70
Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabiano presented South Torch lake Fire & Rescue report.
Kevin Hoch; sheriff, introduced undersheriff George Lassiter and gave sheriff’s report.
Terry VanAlstine gave county commissioner meeting report and it will be put on township web site.
Communications: None
Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report.
Planning Commission: Robbins reviewed proposed Helena Township zoning ordinance language changes. Rice made the motion to adopt these language changes with support by Bartz and motion approved.
Parks & Rec: No quorum; no meeting.
Roads: Nothing to report.
Old Business: Reviewed Torch lake Township ordinance for septic system inspection prior to sale of property.
New Business: Reviewed and approved MOU (memorandum of understanding) between Helena Township and the Helena Township Historical Society (HTHS).
Preferred Maintenance Services, request Rodney to install panic bar on kitchen exit door.
Reviewed bids from Jahr Contractor’s LLC to repair holes and cracks at the Alden boat launch. Peterson made the motion to approve the bids for the repairs and not to exceed $6100.00 with support by Bartz and approved.
Reviewed bid from Jahr Contractor’s LLC to set large rocks at the baseball park to prevent people from driving on the ball diamond.
Reviewed bids from Chain O Lakes Painting LLC to paint 4 restroom doors at the tennis court park and seal deck and paint bench at the Depot Park. Rice made the motion to approve the two bids and not to exceed $2650.00 with support by Robbins and motion carried.

Motion to pay bills: Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Bartz and approved and motion carried.
