Helena Township Board Meeting March 9th, 2023
Meeting called to order at 7:02 PM. Members present were David Peterson, and Bonnie Robbins, Cathy Rice with Butch Peeples and Butch Bartz absent. Motion by Robbins to approve the agenda and supported by Peterson and approved. Motion by Robbins to approve the February’s meeting minutes and supported by Peterson and approved.

Public Comment: None
Treasurer’s Report: beginning balance February 1st, 2023 is $723,605.28
Total receipts: $144,655.85 and total disbursements: $57,750.69 Ending balance February 28, 2023 is $810,510.44
Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Robbins and supported by Peterson and approved.
Presentation of Bills: February 1-28, $47,309.42, March 1-8th; $8544.84
Fire Chief/Sheriff Report: Paul Fabiano reviewed report for STLFD. New experienced EMS person joined fire department, for that purpose only, but no fire runs.
Speakers: Mary Ann Stimpson and Dale Colianni spoke to board with concerns of the maintenance of Cemetery Road. Discussion followed. Peterson had spoken with Burt Thompson and shared Burt’s comments to receiving same letter with concerns for Cemetery Road. Next step for Cemetery Road is for residents along Cemetery Road to contact Antrim County Road Commission.
Communications: County commissioner Terry VanAlstine gave County commissioner report received by email and will be on website. Public hearing for millage proposal of 4 mils for county building in March.
Zoning: Reviewed Bob Logee’s zoning report. Board of Review meeting March 14. Logee requested pay increase to $300 for board of review members for 2023. Rice made the motion to increase pay to $300 for the board of review members with support by Robbins and motion carried.
Planning Commission: March meeting cancelled.
Parks & Rec: Steve Dell gave report and submitted site plan for improving the access to Lone Tree Point Public Access with request of township board to approve this project. Discussion followed and request tabled until next board meeting in April. Discussed an expansion of the existing pavilion at the tennis court park instead of adding a new separate structure.
Roads: Received EGLE restrictions on brine usage and dust control for county road commission.

Robbins made the motion to pay the bills and supported by Peterson and approved and motion carried.
