Helena Township Board Meeting – 01/11/2018

Meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Rick Teague. Present: Rick Teague,

David Peterson, Butch Bartz, Catherine Rice and Bonnie Robbins. Motion to approve agenda

by Robbins w/support by Bartz and motion carried.

Conflict of interest: None

Public Comment: Guy Molby inquired as to the board’s position on a marijuana facility in

Helena Township. On advice from the township’s attorney Helena Township has neither opted

in or out on marijuana facilities in the township.

Sheriff Dan Bean reviewed December report and compared annual reports for 2016 and

2017. Two new dispatchers have been hired. Bean commented on marijuana facilities in

Antrim County. Bean commented on updates to 911 system.

Chad Bartz spoke about producing wine, hard cider, and meade and was referred to the

zoning administrator and the planning commission.

Approval of minutes: Motion by Rice w/support by Teague and motion carried.

Treasurer’s report: Beginning balance as of December 1st, 2017: $326,373.62

Receipts: $147,466.42 Dispersed: $23,407.02

Ending balance: $450,533.02 as of 12/31/2017

Motion to approve treasurer’s report by Teague w/support by Robbins and motion carried.

Presentation of Bills: Dec. 1st-31; $12,347.39 and Jan. 1st-11th; $3,429.18

Peterson presented board with the 2018 township insurance renewal for $24,387.00. No other

options were selected. Consensus of the board was to go ahead and pay the $24,387.00.

Additional Public Comment: Tom Comfort provided the board with additional information on

five other cemeteries in the area. Jim Gurr expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the

board members service.

Motion to pay bills: Teague made the motion to pay the bills w/support by Robbins.
